Mermaid Boat Trips Curacao

Ver weg van de drukte van Punda en Otrobanda op Curaçao, ligt een eiland met witte zandstranden, kristalhelder water, een schitterend koraalrif dat bewoond wordt door oogverblindende flora en fauna, een waar mekka voor duikers, snorkelaars en zonaanbidders.

Klein Curaçao ligt zo'n 25 kilometer van het zuidoostelijke puntje van het "grote" Curaçao, twee uur varen vanaf Spanish Water. De Mermaid, een stevig en zeewaardig schip, ligt op u te wachten aan de kade van de Fisherman's Pier, en vaart elke woensdag, vrijdag en zondag ochtend om 6:45. Drie keer per week neemt de Mermaid zo'n zestig personen mee naar Klein Curaçao voor een onvergetelijke dag.

Wanneer u aan boord gaat van de Mermaid, wacht u de hartelijke ontvangst van Kapitein Cor met een kopje thee of koffie. De sfeer aan boord is prima en u zult zich direct thuis voelen.

Als de Mermaid uitvaart, zet het schip koers langs de onherbergzame zuidkust van Curaçao, waar Fuik, Duivelsklip en Oostpunt deel uitmaken van een wildreservaat. Soms zwemmen de dolfijnen mee met het schip. En als de Mermaid het zuidwestelijke punt eenmaal voorbij is, verandert Kapitein Cor van koers en vaart op Klein Curaçao aan.

In de verte kunt u de vuurtoren van Klein Curaçao en het scheepswrak al zien liggen. Als de de Mermaid de kust nadert komen de kleine hutten in zicht, die door de lokale vissers worden gebruikt. Maar het zijn vooral de eindeloze witte stranden die in het oog springen en klaarliggen om door u te worden ontdekt.

Eenmaal voor anker, oefent het turquoise gekleurde, kristalheldere water een onweerstaanbare aantrekkingskracht uit en neemt iedereen die wil een duik. Een wandeling langs het strand of naar de historische vuurtoren. Mooie schelpen zoeken langs de branding of gewoon lekker in een comfortabele strandstoel genieten van de zon.

De Mermaid heeft als enige een strandhuis op Klein Curaçao. Met een overdekte patio met picknick tafels en gekoelde drankjes zit je er heerlijk uit de zon. De toiletten zijn keurig en goed onderhouden. De Mermaid biedt alle faciliteiten die u nodig heeft voor een onvergetelijke dag aan het strand.

Voor snorkelaars en duikers heeft Klein Curaçao een heleboel te bieden. Koraalformaties, een verticale helling en verschillende onderwatergrotten. De Mermaid en haar bemanning bieden de mogelijkheid om 's ochtends en 's middags te duiken. Vanaf een rubberboot kunnen duikers het noordelijke en zuidelijke punt van het eiland exploreren.

Tussen de middag wacht een uitstekend buffet waar u zich te goed kunt doen aan perfect geprepareerde kip en karbonades, salades en fruit. Er is bier, wijn, vruchtensappen en frisdrank.

Om 4 uur 's middags is het tijd om de terugreis te aanvaarden en vaart de Mermaid terug naar het vasteland. Bij aankomst wordt het schip verwelkomd door de achterblijvers op de kade.

A trip to Paradise.... Klein Curacao

Far away from the hustle and bustle of Curaçao's Punda and Otrobanda districts lies a remote, coral island with white sand beaches, crystal clear water, a spectacular reef and colorful sea life. The flat, wind-swept island of Klein Curaçao (Dutch for Little Curaçao) is a mecca for divers, snorkelers and sunbathers.

Klein Curaçao lies 15 miles off the southeast point of Curaçao and is just a two-hour boat trip from Spanish Water. The Mermaid, a sturdy sea-going vessel, awaits passengers at the Fishermen's Pier every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings at 6:45am. Three times a week, the Mermaid takes up to 60 people out to the island of Klein Curaçao for a perfect day by the sea.

When you climb aboard the Mermaid, you'll be greeted with a warm cup of tea or coffee. Captain Cor and his crew create a great atmosphere that makes you feel welcome on board.

The Mermaid sets sails along the southern coast of Curaçao. From the boat you'll see Fuik, Duivelsklip and Oostpunt, a completely inaccessible region of Curaçao that has been set aside as a wildlife preserve. Sometimes dolphins swim alongside the boat. Then the Mermaid turns southward and heads out into the blue sea, towards Klein Curaçao.

From a distance, you can see Klein Curaçao's landmark lighthouse and a shipwreck that was lodged on the beach many years ago. As the boat approaches the coast, you'll see a few huts, which are used by the local island fishermen. But mostly, you'll see endless beaches of white sand, waiting to be explored by you.

Once the Mermaid has anchored off shore, you'll want to take a swim in the crystal clear turquoise water. Take a stroll and visit the historical lighthouse or collect shells on the beach. Lie out on a beach chair and catch some rays of sun with beautiful women in colorful bikinis.

Exclusive to the Mermaid, Captain Cor and his crew have the only beach house on Klein Curaçao. With a large thatched-roof patio, picnic benches and cool drinks it's a great shady shelter from the heat of the sun. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The Mermaid provides all the facilities you need for a nice day on the beach.

For snorkelers and scuba divers, Klein Curaçao has much to offer. Klein Curaçao has nice coral formations, a vertical drop-off and a couple of underwater caves. The Mermaid offers a morning and afternoon dive. Drift-diving from a rubber dinghy, divers will explore both the northern and southern tips of the island.

A fantastic buffet lunch at the beach house awaits you-chicken, pork chops, corn on the cob, salads and fruits are prepared to perfection. Beer, wine, juices and soft drinks are provided.

And at 4 pm, it's all aboard time as the Mermaid heads back to the mainland. From the shores of Curaçao, people greet the Mermaid's return with warm smiles and friendly waves.
